On Sunday, the first-ever WPTDeepStacks London Online series kicked off on 888poker. The weeklong series (April 18-26) will award over $2,000,000 in guarantees across 16 events. And things got off to a hot start right out of the gate.

The first two events catered to a combined 1,730 entries and awarded $268,650 in prize money. This excellent start which set the stage for a great series with even bigger tournaments coming down the pipeline.

Latvia’s “i2out” Wins Opening Event for $40,540

In the $525 buy-in WPTDS Event #1: $200,000 Opening Event, which was both live streamed and live reported by PokerNews, 292 players rebought 65 times. The 357-entry field meant the $200K prize pool was reserved for the top 48 finishers.

Unfortunately, none of the 888poker Ambassadors that competed – including Dominik "888Dominik" Nitsche, Sofia "sofialovgren" Lovgren, Vivian "vivi.888." Saliba, and Chris "888Moorman" Moorman – managed to make the money.

“EastWestAK” bubbled in 49th place, the result of losing ace-jack to pocket queens. The in-the-money finishes came quick and included the following players –

  • Felipe “mr.salgedo” Salgado (34th - $1,440)
  • “kiskutya23” (22nd - $1,480)
  • “Farrugia_1” (19th - $1,480)
  • “Bongoal” (13th - $1,780)
  • “KelevraJesus” (6th - $8,160)

With four players remaining in Level 35 (25,000/50,000/6,250), Maksim “MAMOHT_T” Viktorovich moved all-in for 472,278. They held the A♠Q♦, and “Tedson89” called with the superior A♣K♦. The kicker made the difference as the board ran out J♠A♥4♦7♥10♥. Viktorovich was eliminated in fourth place for $15,420.

“torresfan03” bowed out in third place losing queen-seven to the ace-king of “Tedson89”. The latter took a nearly 2:1 chip lead into heads-up play. It proved anything but a quick affair however, as “i2out” battled into the chip lead and whittled away at his opponent.

In Level 39 (50,000/100,000/12,500), “Tedson89” moved all-in for his last 11 big blinds with the A♦9♥. “i2out” opted to call with the K♥6♣.

“Tedson89” got it in good but failed to hold as the board ran out 10♠2♣10♦7♣K♣ to give “i2out” a rivered two pair.
