Explanation of Nut low
The best possible high hand is referred to as “the nuts” and the best possible low hand is referred to as “the nut low”.
The nut low will naturally depend on the variant. For example in Omaha Hi/Lo the nut low is A,2,3,4,5 while in 2-7 Triple Draw the nut low is 2,3,4,5,7
How to Use Nut low as Part of Your Poker Strategy
The “nut low” is usually relative to the situation rather than referring to the absolute best possible hand in the variant.
For example in Omaha Hi/Lo
Hand: A♠2♠K♦Q♦
Board: 4♣7♥8♥
We have the nut low here with our A,2,4,7,8. Of course, this hand is not the absolute nuts, but it’s the strongest possible low hand on this board texture. We hence refer to it as the nut low.
